Donald D. Daugherty, 73, of Moundville, died Aug. 11, 2005, at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo., following a short illness.

He was born Dec. 25, 1931, in Bronaugh, to Ralph "Hike" Daugherty and Goldie Mae Green Daugherty. On Sept. 3, 1960, he married Janet L. Hatfield, in Miami, Okla., and she survives of the home.

He was reared in Vernon County and graduated from Bronaugh High School in 1949. Following high school he was employed with A&P Supermarket, in Lawrence, Kan., for two years. He then went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in Louisiana for a time before coming back to Kansas City to work in the Kansas City, Mo., Post Office. He worked there for seven years becoming the designated clerk over the foreign mail section. He then began a career that lasted for 10 years as a crane operator in bridge, road, and pipeline construction working throughout the Midwestern states. In 1978 he came back to Vernon County and began a business contracting in railroad repairs. He retired in 1980. He was a member of the Nevada BPO Elks No. 564, Liberal Masonic Lodge, and Operating Engineers Local 4101.

Survivors in addition to his wife Janet, include three sisters, Peggy Headley, of Pittsburg, Kan., Marlene Thomson, of Kansas City, Mo., and Sharon Earl of Independence, Mo.; one brother, Larry Daugherty, of Kansas City, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Douglas Brent Daugherty; his parents; three sisters, Virginia Lee Daugherty, Patsy Janes, and Clausteele Boyd; and two brothers, Ralph Daugherty and Boyd Daugherty.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Aug. 15, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, with Ralph Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call from now until the hour of service and family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Lupus Foundation or the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral.
