Vernie E. "Vern" Landreth

Vernie E. "Vern" Landreth, 85, Milo, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, at Carthage Health and Rehabilitation Center, Carthage, Mo., following an illness of several months. He was born Jan. 25, 1920, in Schell City, Mo., to Bert Landreth and Maudie Cartwright Landreth. He was married Oct. 17, 1965 in Schell City, to Shirley Story and she survives of the home.

Mr. Landreth was born and reared in Schell City. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on an aircraft carrier. Following the service he worked for General Motors in Kansas City, Mo., for 32 years, retiring in 1978. Following retirement, he returned to this area and spent the remainder of his life here. He was a member of the New Liberty Baptist Church in Grain Valley, Mo.

In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by two sons, Donald E. Landreth, El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Ronald E. Landreth, Kansas City, Kan.; two daughters, Shellie J. Eckert, Saint Louis, Mo., and Sheila M. Jones, Paola, Kan.; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Janet Williams, two brothers, John W. Landreth and Junior Landreth and one sister Ruby Rector.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with John Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Green Lawn Cemetery, Schell City.

Friends may call now and until the time of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday between 6-7 p.m. The family suggests that memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
