Helen Mae Hedges

Helen Mae Hedges, 78, Nevada, Mo., passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2006, at her home in Nevada, following an illness of several months. She was born Dec. 14, 1927, in Ames, Iowa, to Norvil David Floyd and Lola Mae Moore Floyd. She and Robert Hedges were married on July 27, 1950, in Bentonville, Ark., and he survives of the home.

Helen was born in Iowa, and moved to Vernon County as a young child. She graduated from Nevada High School. Helen worked as a secretary for a number of years at Farm and Home, Citizens State Bank, and Nevada State Hospital, retiring in 1976. Helen was a member of the Milo Baptist Church and the Milo Help Your Neighbors Club. She was the secretary for the Milo Cemetery Association for 30 years.

Survivors in addition to her husband, Robert, of the home, include two sons, Bill Hedges, Nevada, and Brian Hedges, Bolivar, Mo.; one daughter, Barbara Hedges, Milo, Mo.; six grandchildren, Paula Fleury, Arma, Kan., Derek Hedges and Christopher Hedges, both of Nevada, Aaron Hedges, Levi Hamersley, and Austen Hedges, all of Bolivar; two sisters, Dorothy Dailey, Springfield, Mo., and Vivian Sherk, Clearwater, Fla. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Norman, Howard, and Richard Floyd.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, July 24, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Steve Fox officiating. Interment will follow in Milo Cemetery, Milo, with Steve Fox officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends 6-7 p.m., on Sunday, July 23, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given in her memory to the American Cancer Society in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
