Earl Randall Maffett, 80, Bronaugh, Mo., died Aug. 2, 2006, at Medicalodge of Fort Scott, following a lengthy illness. He was born on Sept. 24, 1925, in Fort Scott, to Earl Henry Maffett and Ethel Blubaugh Maffett. On April 10, 1955, he was married to Betty Saathoff in Bronaugh, and she survives of the home.

Earl was a graduate of Fort Scott High School and Fort Scott Junior College. He held the bachelor's degree, a master's degree, and specialists in education degrees from Pittsburg State University. He was a licensed psychologist.

Earl worked in the Bronaugh School System from 1954-'56 and again from 1974-'79 as a counselor and school psychological examiner. He worked 18 years at the Nevada State Hospital, taught psychology at Cottey College in Nevada from 1967-'70 and worked several years at the Nevada Mental Health Clinic.

Earl came to the Bronaugh community in 1954 when he purchased the farm where he and Betty lived the past 51 years. He was a member of the Bronaugh Christian Church, Mensa, the Missouri Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association.

Survivors in addition to his wife, Betty, include three children, Linda Woody and her husband, Mike, Carthage, Mo., Larry Maffett and his wife, Alice, Redfield, Kan., and Bill Maffett, Bronaugh; five grandchildren, Cherie Grant, James Woody, Heather Marcum, and Amber Moffatt; one great-grandson, Aidan Marcum; and one brother, Ronald Maffett, Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Doris Maffett Jack.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 5, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Fort Scott. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends Friday, Aug. 4, from 7-8 p.m., at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
