Nellie Lucille Martin

Nellie Lucille Martin, age 84, a former resident of Fort Scott, Kan., and more recently of Nevada, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center. She was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Bourbon County, Kan., the daughter of Fred Leroy Cowan and Jennie Daering Cowan. She married Joe K. Martin on Nov. 13, 1972, in Girard, Kan. He preceded her in death on Sept. 21, 2005.

Nellie worked for Key Industries in Fort Scott and the Nellie Don Dress Company in Nevada. She was of the Baptist faith. Nellie was a former member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Lawrence, and husband, Jim, of Nevada; two grandchildren, Bryan Lawrence, Nevada, and Bridget Kavanagh, Carterville, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Shannon Lawrence, Deerfield, Mo., and Melissa Kavanagh, Carterville; and a great-great-granddaughter, Emilie Lawrence, Deerfield.

The Rev. Bill Smith will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 11, at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Scott. The family will receive friends at the Cheney Witt Memorial Chapel on Friday from 10 a.m., until leaving for the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
