Aletta Mae Russell, 59, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at her home, following a lengthy illness. She was born July 20, 1947, in Mindenmines, Mo., to Leon Franklin Carpenter and Evelyn Cora Claypool Carpenter. She married James Dalman Russell on June 10, 1963, in Nevada, and he survives of the home.

Aletta was born in Mindenmines and spent most of her life in this area. She worked at a variety of occupations including seamstress, daycare provider, food service, and nursing care. She was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church, Nevada Chapter No. 53 Order of Eastern Star, and Order of Amaranth Regal Court No. 10, Ft. Scott, Kan., and the Vernon County Historical Society.

Survivors in addition to her husband James; include three sons, James L. Russell, Sheldon, Mo., Wesley E. Russell and James E. Russell, both of Nevada; two daughters, Cynthia A. Bray, Neodesha, Kan., and Caroline M. McCartney, Walker, Mo.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Gary Carpenter, Moundville, Merle Carpenter, Stockton, Mo., and James Carpenter, Adair, Okla.; two sisters, Maxine Avery, Blue Eye, Mo., and Delma Herman, Marshfield, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Oct. 14, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with John Nichols and Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home and the family will receive friends 6-7 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 13, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Vernon County Cancer Relief Fund in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
