Loren H. Rice

Loren H. Rice, 88, Lamar, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at Truman Health Center in Lamar following an illness of a few weeks. He was born March 8,1918, in Barton County, Mo., to Earl August Rice and Mae Moore Rice. He married Olive Lorraine Gillispie on Feb. 20, 1954, in Sheldon, Mo. She preceded him in death on Jan. 24, 1999.

Loren was born and reared in this area and spent most all of his life here. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Following the service, he returned to this area where he made his living as a farmer for a lifetime. He was a member of the Sheldon First Baptist Church, Sheldon.

Survivors include three sons, Tim Rice, Mt. Vernon, Mo., Danny Rice, Sheldon, and Clifford Rice, Lamar; two daughters, Martha Crafts, St. Peters, Mo., and Beth Pettibon, Moundville, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, Marvin Rice, Butler, Mo., Clinton Rice, Grandview, Mo., and Howard Rice, Sheldon. In addition to his wife, Lorraine, and his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Viola Zollman, Rose Adair, and Hazel Pettit.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006, at the First Baptist Church, Lamar, with the Revs., Ron Franklin and Rob Hobson officiating. Interment will follow in Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon. Friends may call now and until 9 a.m., Saturday and the family receives friends 6-7 p.m. this evening, Dec. 8, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
