Dorothy Beatrice Winona Hillier

Dorothy Beatrice Winona Hillier, age 95, was born June 26, 1911, in Schell City, Mo., the daughter of Lemuel Francis and Hettie (Fox) Strader, passed from this life on Monday, Dec. 4, 2006, at the Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg, Kan.

Dorothy attended elementary school at Flat Rock and high school at Harwood High. She later married Ralph Harlan Hillier and to their union two children were born. The family lived mostly in the Schell City area with the exception of a few years when Dorothy lived and worked in Kansas City, Mo. Her employment included retail sales for JC Penney in Nevada, Mo., hospital housekeeper in Kansas City, as well as employment with a transport business there.

In 1979 Dorothy moved back to Schell City when her son Delbert was injured in an accident and required care for his recovery. Dorothy continued to live in Schell City until her health no longer permitted.

Her hobbies included fishing, camping, and she always enjoyed riding through Schell City Conservation are to see wildlife. Dorothy was a long-time member of the Schell City Christian Church and enjoyed attending school activities and high school basketball games.

Survivors include her daughter and son, Neva Ann Williamson of Pittsburg, Kan., and Delbert Hillier of Schell City; five grandchildren, Mitchell Hillier, Chelly Motts, Kim Williamson, Karen Williamson and Lacy Hillier; four great-grandchildren, Destiny and Chrystal Hillier, Cheldon Motts, and LaKira Hillier; one niece, Linda Lungstrum of Joplin, Mo.; three nephews, Larry and Douglas Hillier of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Steve Hill of Kansas City, Mo.; other relative, and many friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., today, Dec. 8, at the Schell City Christian Church with brother Gene Gray officiating. Musical selections were provided by Kelly Davis and Diane Eslinger. Pallbearers were Kevin Harms, Donnie Harms, Randy Harms, Junior Blakely, Dennis Vantellman and Mack Booth. Interment was in the Green Lawn Cemetery, Schell City.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City.
