Calvin Clark Russell

Calvin Clark Russell, 85, Nevada, Mo., passed away Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, Nevada. He was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Deerfield, to John Calvin Russell and Nellie Eunice Baynes Russell. He married Jeanette Pilcher from Milo, on Dec. 4, 1946. in Fort Scott, Kan., and she survives of the home after 60 happy years together.

Calvin enlisted in the U. S. Air Force Aug. 22, 1942, and was discharged in 1946 and served in the reserves until 1952. While in the Air Force he was stationed at Kingman, Ariz., as a Gunnery Instructor and taught anti-air and air-to-ground airplane gunnery until the time of his discharge. He was a member of the Christian Church in Pomeroy, Wash., and never moved his membership. He was happiest while spending time with his family and friends. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandson. He had lots of friends and always gave them a helping hand when needed. He was a good neighbor to all. Calvin was a fry cook for Quality Drive Inn in Nevada. He was a lifetime member of the Missouri Trap Shooters Association and owned and operated the Nevada Trap Shoot for five years. Calvin Worked for 21 years as a sales manager for Adams Sales Company. He retired from the Fram Corporation, where he had worked for nine years. Calvin was a member of the Nevada American Legion Post No. 2 for 52 years and a life member of the American Rifle Association. After retiring, he loved to fish and enjoyed being home with his wife and family. He loved to do gardening and work with his flowers in the yard.

In addition to his wife Jeanette, survivors include one daughter, Linda Sue Pike, El Dorado Springs; one granddaughter, Tanja Hoagland, Joplin; two grandsons, Kenneth Pike, El Dorado Springs, and Bradley Pike, Nevada; one great-grandson, Justin Pike, El Dorado Springs; one brother, Donald Russell, Columbus, Ohio; one aunt, Ruth Baynes, Nevada; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Patricia Elaine Reno, three sisters and one brother.

A private graveside service was held at 10 a.m., today, at Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, with the Rev. Bill Smith officiating.

The family suggests that memorials may be made, in his honor, to the Deerfield Cemetery Association or to Nevada Regional Medical Center in care of the funeral home.
