Alvie Levera Highley

Alvie Levera Highley, age 76 of Milo, Mo., passed away on Oct. 9, 2007, at McCune Brooks Hospital, in Carthage, Mo. Born May 8, 1931, in Montevallo, Mo., to James Miles Highley and Gertie Ann Rapp Highley. Alvie joined Georgia Nell Weaver in holy matrimony on May 16, 1954.

Alvie grew up in the Montevallo area attending the Montevallo Baptist Church where he was saved as a young boy. He graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1949. After graduation he relocated to the Kansas City, Kas., area and returned to El Dorado Springs in 1967. Over the years he worked at Witt Engineering, in El Dorado Springs, and retired in 1994 from Fram in Nevada. Throughout his life he lovingly devoted any spare moments to ensure the happiness and success of family and friends. Many summers were spent coaching summer little league teams, and he always remained a face in the stands as his children progressed through the years. Even during his last days he enjoyed watching the game with his family.

Alvie is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Georgia; one daughter Gloria Latta and spouse Bryan of Milo; two sons: David Highley and spouse Bonny, of Marshfleld, Mo., and Kevin Highley and spouse Tammy, of Halfway, Mo.; three grandchildren, Erin Budd and spouse Brian, of El Dorado Springs, Kristin Highley, of Springfield, and Jason Highley, of Neosho; four sisters, Helen Burns of Nevada, Virginia Summervill, of Emporia, Kas., Maijorie Turner, of Milo, and Evelyn Oliver, of Seattle, Wash.; one brother Norman Highley of Nevada.

Alvie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Inez Rosila Rowland and Gertie Ann Highley; three brothers, Herbert Clinton Highley, Orvan Estil Highley and Ural Edward Hlghley; three half-brothers, Roy Joseph Frazer, Carol Everett Frazer and James Miles Highley Jr.

He enjoyed his family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Graveside services for Alvie Highley will be held at the Olive Branch Cemetery, Montevallo, Mo., on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 11 a.m., with Bro. Bobby Budd officiating. Services under direction of Hackleman and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be on Friday evening from 7 to 8 p.m., at the Hackleman Chapel.
