Melvin Thomas Davis, age 83, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, at the Fort Scott Manor. He was born Sept. 20, 1924, in Fort Scott, the son of James Herbert Davis and Liddia Jane Babbitt Davis. After growing up in Fort Scott, Melvin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then lived most of his adult life in Chicago before returning to Fort Scott in 1985.

Melvin is survived by two brothers, Henry Davis of Pueblo, Colorado, and Benjamin Davis of Prarie Village, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Naomi Bissenden, Margarite Smith, Cleta Ogle, and Liddia Juanita Marsh.

Funeral services for Melvin Davis will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at the Cheney Witt Chapel, with Rev. Mark Stetler officiating. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W.
