Elsie Marie Jennings, age 88, Overland Park, Kan., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at her daughter's home in Colleyville, Texas. A celebration of her life will be 2 p.m., Monday, Dec. 31, at D. W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan. A gathering of family and friends will be held 3 to 5 p.m., Sunday at the chapel. Graveside services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Uniontown Cemetery, Uniontown, Kan.

Family and friends may gather at the Cheney Witt Chapel in Fort Scott from 11 a.m. until noon before leaving for the cemetery on Wednesday. Mrs. Jennings was born in Bourbon County, Kansas near Fort Scott, the daughter of Jess and Addie Stradley. She married George Herbert Jennings Dec. 4, 1938 and moved to Overland Park, Kan., in 1958. Elsie was a member of Overland Park Christian Church and retired in April 1986 as a supervisor from Johnson County Finance Department.

Her husband, George Herbert Jennings preceded her in death in 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Jean Kaye Cook, of Orlando, Fla., and Linda Marie Shea of Colleyville, Texas; a sister, Opal McHenry, of Overland Park, Kansas; brother, James Raymond Stradley, of Fort Scott; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Local arrangements are under the direction of Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott.
