John R. Stephens, 76, Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23. 2008, at Moore-Few Care Center, in Nevada, following an illness of several months He was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Nevada, to Charles Stephens and Lizzie Wolfenbarger Stephens.

John was born and reared in Walker, Mo., and spent virtually his entire life in Vernon County, Mo. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. He made his living as a trucker, a farmer, and later in life as a realtor.

Survivors include one son Donald George, Nevada; two daughters, Patsy Wright, Racine, Wis., and Diana Guy, Terre Haute, Ind.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill Stephens, Marionville, and one sister Louelta Livingston, Baltimore, Md. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twins, Judy and Joyce and one brother Bob Stephens.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 28, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Terry Mosher officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, Jan. 27, between 7 and 8 p.m.

The family suggests memorials may be made in his honor to Heartland Hospice, Butler, Mo., in care of the funeral home.
