Doris Irene Purvis, passed away Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Palm Grove Healthcare, Beaumont, Calif., She was 93 years old and had been in failing health for the past few years.

Doris was born June 29, 1914, in Edna, Kan., to Sidney Harlow Hunziker and Freda Edna Massey Hunziker. They moved shortly thereafter to Drexel, Mo., where she grew to womanhood. Doris and her two sisters, Evelyn Ann and Opal Adella all graduated from Drexel High School. On Sept. 16, 1933, she was united in marriage to Charles Arthur Purvis in Osawatomie, Kan. They then moved to a farm near LaCygne, Kan., where they reared a family of four children: Carol Lynn, Avalee, Charles Bruce and Roy Arthur. In 1954 they moved to Mound City, Kan., where she remained until the latter part of her life.

She then went to live in California with her oldest daughter, Carol.

Doris was a member of the Easter Star, EHU and the American Legion Auxillary. She helped to organize the Arts and Crafts Festival. She enjoyed sewing and was an excellent seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her husband, "Art", and her second daughter, Avalee. She is survived by three of her children: Carol Lynn Gutierrez of Homeland, Calif.; Charles Bruce Purvis of Kansas City, Mo., and Roy Arthur Purvis of Mound City, Kan.; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1, at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City, Kan. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Contributions are suggested to a charity of choice. Interment will be in the Sharon Cemetery, Drexel, Mo.
