Stella Irene Callaway

Stella Irene Callaway, 87, of Pratt, Kan., passed away on Feb. 3, 2008, at Pratt Regional Medical Center. Stella was born on Sept. 25, 1920, near Argonia, Kan., to Chester Allen Baker and Alta Beebe Baker. She married Lloyd E. "Bill" Callaway, July 12, 1942. He preceded her in death Feb. 26, 2002.

Stella was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, in Pratt. She was a resident of Pratt since 1950. She loved to work in her garden and she was active in her church and was a volunteer for more than 30 years in the nursing home.

Survivors include one son, Bill Callaway, of Clay Center, Kan.; one daughter, Mary Vandenburg and husband Jack, of Nevada; two brothers, John Baker and Charles Baker; three sisters, Edith, Hazel and Viola; three grandchildren, Debbie and husband Dwight Hammond, David Vandenburg and wife Melissa, Darren Callaway amd wife Kerri; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan, Isaiah and Elaina Hammond, Sydney and Jaylee Callaway, Cameron and Bryanna Vandenburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd; an infant son, Maynard Allen Callaway; and three brothers, Ralph, Delbert and Chester Jr.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Friday, Feb. 8, at Ayres Calbeck Mortuary with the Rev. Bob Fleener officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m., Friday Feb. 8, at Eden Cemetery, in Milton, Kan. Friends may call Thursday, Feb. 7, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the mortuary.
