Zepha Mae Dougherty

Zepha Mae Dougherty, 86, of Nevada, died on Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at Nevada Regional Medical Center. She was born on July 10, 1921, in Fortescue, Mo., to Lloyd Caleb Smith and Ida Mae Boyd Smith.

Zepha moved to the Nevada area at an early age and graduated from Walker High School, in 1940. She married Lester Dougherty, on Aug. 30, 1941. They owned and operated a small grocery store in Nevada in the late 1940s, then Zepha became a full-time homemaker and mother. She was a charter member of the First Assembly of God Church and served many years in several areas of volunteer ministry.

Survivors include her three daughters: Dianna Hartley and her husband Joe, of Nevada, Sue Shellhorn and her husband Bob, of Grain Valley, Mo., and Lou Henry and her husband Jerry, of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren, Brian Henry and his wife Amy, of Las Vegas, Kevin Henry and his wife Heather, of Austin, Texas, Jon Shellhorn and his wife Megan, of Lee's Summit, Mo., Todd Shellhorn and his wife Andrea, of Blue Springs, Mo., Jennifer Hartley and Justin Hartley, of Kissimmee, Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Austin Henry, twins Kaiya and Sierra Henry and Owen Shellhorn. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester; two brothers, Earl Smith and Leo Smith; and one sister, Martha Dougherty.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 18, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with the Rev. John Martz officiating and the Rev. Ted Furry assisting. Interment will follow at Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call Friday and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
