Jack Eldon Grubb Sr., 71, of Fort Scott, died 5:10 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Girard Medical Center, following a short illness.

Jack was born March 16, 1937 in Fort Scott, the son of William McKinley "Sam" and Iva Leora (Bolling) Grubb. He grew up in Fort Scott, and attended area schools. In 1954 he enlisted in the National Guard 109th Artillery Unit and recieved his discharge in 1956.

On June 10, 1956, he married Marjorie Jean Byington, in Miami, Okla. They had four children; Jack Eldon Grubb Jr., of Fort Scott, Joel Dwaine Grubb and wife Angela, of Radley, Kan., James Daniel Grubb, of Fulton, Kan., and Laura Smith-Qualizza, of Fulton, Kan.; they later divorced. He owned and operated a service station, in Albany, Ga., for many years. Jack worked as a mechanic, front end alignment and brake specialist, and later as a machinist, before retiring in 1994.

Jack attended the Grace Baptist Tabernacle Church. He was an avid hunter as a younger man. He enjoyed stock car racing and worked on cars for many drivers in the southeast Kansas area, as well as one with his oldest son. Jack will be remembered and missed most for the interest he took in others and humorous wit. He never passed up an opportunity to exchange a laugh, fond memory or loving story with those he met. He also enjoyed sports, especially Kansas City Chiefs football, fishing, gardening, feeding his wild birds and most of all his family.

Survivors include his children, sister Sandy McKey, of the state of Georgia, several nieces and nephews, 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Bobby Eugene, Clyde Edward, Beau Guest, Charlotte Ann, Claudette, Christabelle and his parents.

Memorial graveside services will be determined at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Scott, with the Rev. Ronnie Brown officiating.
