Velma Ruth Gibson, 74, Nevada, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Freeman West Health Systems, Joplin, Mo., following lengthy illness. She was born June 13, 1934, in Carthage, Mo., to Judson B. Driver and Mary E. Rapp Driver.

Ruth graduated from Lamar High School, Lamar, Mo., in 1952. She worked in a variety of locales, including Southwestern Bell Telephone in Nevada, Pacific Telephone and Telegraph, Alhambra, Calif., the Nevada State Hospital and the Nevada Habilitation Center. She was also employed in the dietary department at Beverly Health Care, in Nevada, until the time of her early retirement. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Nevada and the Loyal Order of the Women of the Moose No. 1092, in Kansas City, Mo.

Survivors include, two sons, Tony Gibson, Nevada, and Terry Gibson, Fullerton, Calif.; three grandchildren, one step-grandson and one step-great-grandson; two sisters, Virginia Carpenter, Newman, Calif., and Ida V. Claiborne, Appleton City, Mo.; two brother, Virgil Driver, Milo, Mo. and Herbert Driver, Winter Garden, Fla.; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug., 2, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Hubert Fox officiating. Interment will follow in Milo Cemetery, Milo, Mo.

The family suggests that memorials may be made in her honor to either Nevada Hospice, the Children's Miracle Network or the Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
