Shirley E. Sprenkle, 92, Lamar, Mo., passed away on Sunday morning, Aug. 10, 2008, at the Truman Healthcare, in Lamar, following a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Franklin, Kan., to Roy E. Murphy and Susie Boggs Murphy. She married Jesse "Lee" Sprenkle on Feb. 27, 1935, in Neosho, Mo., and preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1982.

Mrs. Sprenkle was born on a farm outside of Franklin, Kan. She moved to Newton County at a young age. After getting married, she and her husband moved to Barton County, northeast of Verdella, where they reared their family and operated a Grade A Dairy Farm until 1977, then moved to Sheldon for retirement. She worked as a pastry cook at the Blue Top Restaurant, in Lamar, Mo., for many years before retiring completely. She was a member of the Bryan Club, in Verdella, Mo., and both Sheldon Senior Citizens Groups. She attended the Sheldon Baptist Church for many years, helping with Bible School and all the dinners.

Survivors include three sons, Roy Edward Sprenkle and his wife Lorene, of Jasper, Mo., Darrell Lee Sprenkle and his wife Karen, of Stark City, Mo., and Paul Eugene Sprenkle and his wife Phyllis, of Sheldon, Mo.; one daughter, Judy I. Fast and her husband Jimmy Dale, of Iantha, Mo.; grandchildren, Dr. Tim Sprenkle, Rick and Tammy Sprenkle, the Rev. Randy and Regina Sprenkle, Dr. Vincent and Dana Sprenkle, Kevin and Kelly Sprenkle, Tammy and Dr. Dean Motadezi, Tabby and Jeff Compton, Jeremy and Brian Weaver, Jena Braker and fiance Cory Peak, and Jessica and Cortney Mitchell; two step-grandchildren, Tracy and Monte Stephens and Tori and Melissa Holsinger; 32 great-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Roxie Riley, of Richmond, Kan.; three brothers Jack Murphy, of Joplin, George Murphy, of Sublette, Kan., and Bob Murphy and his wife Sissy, of Waldorf, Md., and on brother-in-law, Charles Sprenkle and his wife Merle, of Lamar. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Murphy; three sisters, Dottie Harrison, Lillie Sprenkle and Marion New; one granddaughter, Valerie Lea Sprenkle, and one great-grandson, Nathaniel Aaron Sprenkle.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 16, at Ferry Funeral Home, in Nevada, with the Rev. Randy Sprenkle officiating. Interment will follow in Barton City Cemetery, northeast of Liberal, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday at the funeral home.
