Glenn R. Maupin, 94, of Fort Scott, died early Friday morning at the Mercy Health Center. He was born July 30, 1914, in Fort Scott, the son of Glenn Ray and Jennie Erma (Schnaible) Maupin. He married Helen M. Huffine Oct. 17, 1937, in the First United Methodist Church, in Fort Scott.

He graduated from the Parsons High School and the Fort Scott Community College. Following two years in the United States Army during World War II, he was co-owner of McCrum-Maupin Shoe Store from 1947 until 1976. In 1957, he went to work at the United States Post Office until his retirement in 1979.

As a young man, he was a member of Parsons Chapter of the Order of DeMolay. He served eight and a half years on the Fort Scott School Board. During his term as President of the board, the Winfield Scott School was built.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and was a 69-year member of the Rising Sun Lodge No. 8 Blue Lodge. He was a life member for more than 50 years of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, and attained the honor of becoming a 33rd Degree Mason. He was a member of the Mirza Temple Shrine, the Bourbon County Shrine Club, and a past member of Mirza Temple Legion of Honor. He was a past member of the Fidelis Deo White Shrine and a past member of the Kiwanis Club. He also was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post 1165, a past commander in 1951-1952 of the V.F.W. Post No. 1165, a life member of more than 63 years of the American Legion Post No. 25, and a life member since 1984 of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter Kansas No. 6.

Survivors include one daughter; Stephanie H. Johnson, of Fort Scott; one grandson, Kevin G. Asbury and wife Kelly, of Cassville, Mo.; two granddaughters, Jennifer D. Wirth and husband Ryan, of Waco, Texas, and Hilary Berry, of Olathe, Kan.; six great-grandchildren Kyra Asbury, Jaxsen, Rylee, Baxter, and Brynn Wirth, and Amari Berry; one niece; Meredithe McCormick and husband Gary, of Lawrence, Kan.; and several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Jean Maupin Hayden; his wife, Helen M. Maupin; and a daughter Penelope "Penny" Berry.

The Rev. Paul Babcock will conduct services 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home with burial following at the Fort Scott National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m., until service time. The family suggests memorials in his memory be made to the Mirza Temple Tranportation Fund for Crippled Children, the First United Methodist Church, and/or the V.F.W. Post 1165 Memorial Fund, and may be left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall Street, P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
