Matilda Virginia (Thomas) Hutton

Matilda Virginia (Thomas) Hutton, daughter of William H. and Dona I. Zetta (Slocum) Thomas, was born on July 14, 1919, at the family farm on the St. Clair /Henry County Line northeast of Appleton City, Mo. She passed away at Willow Lane Care Center, in Butler, Mo., on March 24, 2009, at the age of 89 years.

Virginia lived the early years of her life in the Appleton City and Rockville areas, attending country schools. She attended high school in Appleton City.

On April 13, 1941, Virginia was united in marriage to Vernon Hutton. Virginia and Vernon farmed in the Taberville area for 10 years before moving to Schell City where they resided until 1972. At that time they moved to the farm near Walker, where Virginia resided until October 2004. Virginia worked as a retail clerk for many years in the Brownsberger Department Store in El Dorado Springs.

Virginia was a member of the Taberville Methodist Church since 1948. In 1950, she became a member of the Order of Eastern Star, achieving Worthy Matron. Virginia was a member of the Harwood Ladies Club for many years.

Virginia loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed preparing family dinners and hosted many Thanksgiving dinners. One of Virginia's specialties was her fried chicken, a recipe none of us has been able to duplicate. She enjoyed cross stitching and made many quilts for family. Virginia also enjoyed reading and working word search puzzles. Virginia always enjoyed a good cheeseburger, coke and chocolate shake.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Vernon; her parents; five brothers Howard, Harry, Glenn, Virgil and Clyde; and a great-granddaughter, Ali Jane Charles. She is survived by her son David Hutton (Sandee), of Nevada, Mo.; two granddaughters, Nancy Widener (Tom), of Bartlesville Okla.; and Stacey Hutton-Pursley (Ken), of Nevada; five great-grandchildren, Taylor and Colby, Charles, Ashton Hutton-Pursley, and Lane Pursley and Kenly Widener, brother-in-law Delbert Hutton (Emma), sister-in-law Carol Hutton, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Virginia will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services for Virginia Hutton were held at the Bland-Hackleman Chapel in El Dorado Springs, Mo., on Saturday, March 28, at 10 a.m., with pastor Tony Reynolds officiating. Interment followed in the El Dorado Springs City Cemetery under the direction of Bland-Hacklenian Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Chad Bruto, Shaun Bruto, Kevin Bell, Kent Bell, Stanton Gammon, and Renn Corbin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Diabetes Association and left at the funeral home.
