Victor Virgil Jacobs, 87, Nevada, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., following an illness of several weeks. He was born July 25, 1921, in Lee City, Ky., to Henry James Jacobs and Phoebe Ann Bellomy Jacobs. He married Mildred Redburn on Oct. 7, 1944, in Fort Scott, and she survives of the home.

Mr. Jacobs was born in Kentucky and grew up in Wisconsin. He served in the United States Army during World War II in a variety of locals including Alaska, France, and Great Britain. He made his home in Vernon County following the service and resided here the remainder of his life. He made his living as a plumber and was self-employed. Virgil was a member of the Church of The Nazarene in Nevada. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Survivors in addition to his wife Mildred of the home, include two sons, Steven Jacobs, Walker, Mo., Jim Jacobs, Denton, Texas; five grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and several stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Orville Jacobs of Wisconsin, and Hurley Jacobs, of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Cathy Jacobs, and Sharon Dawson; one great-grandson, Andy Wayne Dockery; and 10 siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, at the Church of The Nazarene, Nevada, with pastor Mike Satterlee officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, Nevada. Friends may call now and until noon on Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Memorials may be given to a fund for nursery improvements at the Church of The Nazarene in care of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
