Karl O'Brian Smith, 40, Nevada, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2009, at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada following a sudden illness. He was born March 12, 1969, in Houston, Mo., to Larry Ervin Smith and Brenda Gail Cantrell Smith. He married Vickie Sue Belford on September 14, 1996, in Great Bend, Kan., and she survives of the home.

Karl grew up in Great Bend, Kan. In 1988 he graduated from Ellinwood High School, in Ellinwood, Kan. He came to Nevada in 1997. Karl worked for O'Sullivan Industries in Lamar for four years. He has worked for the past five years for the city of Nevada as the Plant Operator for the water treatment plant.

Survivors in addition to his wife Vickie, include his children, daughter, Amanda, Wichita, Kan., son, Adrien McFrederick, Hume, Mo., and daughter, Stephanie Regan, of the state of Iowa; four grandchildren, Malia, Peyton, Kevin, and Talya; his parents, Larry and Brenda Smith, Great Bend, Kan.; maternal grandparents, Clarel and Bonnie Arnold Cantrell; and one sister, Crystal Shidler, state of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Marilyn Jean.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, at Ferry Funeral Home, with pastor Mike Hutchens officiating. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
