Norma Jean Wilson Broome

Norma Jean Wilson Broome, 78, Nevada, died June 4, 2009, at Christian Health Care in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born April 20, 1931, in Pittsburg, Kan., to Carl Alan Wilson and Jennie Van Brabant Wilson.

Norma attended grade school in Pittsburg, Kan., and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1949. She attended Kansas State Teachers College, now Pittsburg State University. She was married June 15, 1952, in Pittsburg, to Don Edward Broome and he preceded her in death April 5, 1996. Norma worked as a school teacher and taught school for a time in Wichita and El Dorado, Kan. Mrs. Broome operated a pre-school in Nevada for 40 years. She enjoyed time spent with her family and her "extended family" of long-time friends. Memberships were held in the Nevada All Saints Episcopal Church, the Dianas, and the Nevada Country Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Teresa Ann Mann and her husband Duane, Nevada; two sons, Todd Broome and his wife Kim, Milwaukee, Wis., and Brad Broome and his wife Jeanette, Topeka, Kan.; five grandchildren, Amy Broome and Amanda Broome, both of Topeka, Kan., Abigail Broome and Emma Broome, both of Milwaukee, Wis., Sarah Beavers, St. Joseph, Mo.; one sister, Phyllis O'Connell and her husband Pat, Frontenac, Kan.; one nephew and four nieces and several great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Don, she was preceded in death by one daughter Dianne.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, at All Saints Episcopal Church in Nevada, with the Rev. Ted Estes officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery in Pittsburg, Kan., at 2 p.m.

Friends may call now and until 9 a.m., on Tuesday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening between 7 and 8.
