Veda Edmonds, 92, Horton, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada following a lengthy illness. She was born on Jan. 29, 1917, in Garden City, Mo., to William Underwood and Nellie Gaston Underwood. She married Jim Edmonds on Jan. 18, 1936, in Butler, Mo., and they were married for 73 years.

Veda moved to Vernon County when she was 5 years old and attended school in Walker, Mo., and graduated from Walker High School. Following their marriage, she and Jim moved to Horton, in March 1937, and spent their entire married life in Horton. She loved her home and family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, family member and friend. She worked for SH Kress for 30 years retiring in 1982. Her primary joy and interest was as a homemaker and she was known for her cooking. She was a member of the Horton United Methodist Church. She loved her church and her animals.

Veda is survived by her husband Jim of the home; one daughter, Norma Sloniker and her husband Joe, Nevada; three grandsons, Jim and his wife Dixie, Glendale, Ariz., Randy, Independence, Mo., and Kenny and his wife Kim, Wichita, Kan.; six great-grandsons; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews; and one brother-in-law, Joe Ralph Edmonds, Nevada. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Juanita Spencer, Bonnie Clark, and Myrtle Judd.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, June 12, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Lawrence Cripps and pastor Connie Locke officiating. Interment will follow in Balltown Cemetery, Horton. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
