Quincy Ray Cross

Quincy Ray Cross, 78, Sheldon, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2009, at his home near Sheldon, following an illness of several months. He was born Oct. 23, 1930, in Bellamy, Mo., to Thomas Ray Cross and Edith Maxwell Cross. He married Margaret Ann Shannon on Sept. 21, 1962, in Springfield, Mo., and she preceded him in death on Feb. 18, 2006.

Quincy was born and reared in Vernon County and spent most all of his life here. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Quincy worked in road construction for 20 years and later at Nevada State Hospital for 12 years. He also farmed his whole adult life. He was a member of the Sheldon Christian Church and also a member of the Masonic Lodge for a number of years.

Survivors include two sons, Ray Cross, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Matt Cross and his wife Hollee, Sheldon; two grandchildren, Wyatt Cross and Rachel Cross, Sheldon, Mo.; and one sister, Dorothy Cross, Sheldon.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Saturday, Aug. 8, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
