Eva Louise Scotten, 65, of Harwood, Mo., was born on Nov. 26, 1943, in El Dorado Springs, Mo., and passed from this life at 12:50 a.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, at her home. Later that year on Oct. 13, Eva was united in marriage to Robert Larry Scotten, in Stockton, Mo., and to their union two children were born.

After the children had gotten a little bigger Eva began working at the shoe factory in El Dorado Springs, then she worked for a time at H&R Block, the Bank of Harwood, Tri County Bank, in El Dorado Springs, and for the last dozen or so years has worked at what is now Midwest Fertilizer, of Harwood, where she was a dedicated employee working until just a few days before her death. She was currently serving as mayor of Harwood at the time of her death, a position that she had held several time through the years. She had also Harwood's city clerk and served as treasurer, and was a longtime board member of the Green Mound Cemetery. A few years ago, she played a pivotal role in the implementation of the main road being paved in Harwood. She was very proud and excited over the growing Northeast Vernon County FFA program in which all four of her grandchildren either were or still are involved in now. She loved going to ballgames to watch her grandchildren and tried to never miss a school program. She also enjoyed a good college basketball or softball game. Eva was always very family oriented and was known for her cooking of big Sunday and holiday dinners. If unexpected company would show up, she would insist that they sit down and eat. She was known as "Grandma" to many more than just her grandchildren, and did you know that she always enjoyed dancing to a good two-step or polka and that at one time she even convinced Bobby to take dance lessons. She will be missed by the entire community.
