Dora Emily (Arnold) Plunkett

Dora Emily (Arnold) Plunkett, age 90, passed away at Nevada Regional Medical Center on Dec. 12, 2009. She was born on Jan. 20, 1919, in Broughton, Kan., to James L. and Minnie (Wilson) Arnold.

During World War II, Dora worked at Pratt & Whitney in Kansas. She served as a waitress at various steakhouses for most of the rest of her working career.

Across the years she attended church at Dederick Christian Church, Park Street Christian Church, and at the time of her passing was a member of First Christian Church in Nevada. Dora was a very spiritual lady, a giving person, and a dedicated member of her church. She was considered a very spunky lady.

Dora was married to Eldon Walls in 1947. He passed away March 18, 1982. On Aug. 16, 1983, she married Ralph Plunkett. He passed away on March 13, 1993.

Also preceding her in death were two step-sons: Robert Walls and Richard Walls; two step-grandsons, Mark Walls and Scott Walls; and three brothers, Clarence Arnold, Wayne Arnold, and Cecil Arnold.

Survivors include five nieces: Joyce Johnson of LaCygne, Kan.; Martha Walls of Gurnee, Ill.; Mary Ann Hillyard of Ranchos de Taos, N.M.; Sharon Stuwart of Sylmar, Calif.; and Kathleen Friedlander of San Francisco, Calif.; one nephew, Melvin Arnold of Springhill, Fla.; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Dora Plunkett were held on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m., at the First Christian Church in Nevada, with pastors Bill Platt and David Rorabaugh officiating. Interment followed in Oak Lawn Cemetery in La Cygne, Kan., under the direction of Bland-Hackleman Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Thomas Johnson, Brent Johnson, Martin Munson, Cole Munson, Justin Boyd, Glen Noble, and Bill Schulz.
