Walter Dee Burris, 56, Milo, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 9, 1953, in San Bernardino, Calif., to Oliver D. Burris and Betty Jean McCune Burris. He was married Oct. 16, 1975, in Nevada, Mo., to Nancy M. Stone and she survives of the home.

Walter came to Vernon County at a young age. He graduated from El Dorado Springs High School in 1971.

He served two years in the U. S. Army, and worked six years at the Nevada Habilitation Center from 1976 to 1982. He graduated as a certified diesel mechanic from Bailey Technical Institute and worked for Beisly Oil Company, Wilson Tire Company and 14 years at Norman Sheet Metal in Nevada until his retirement due to disability.

In addition to his wife Nancy, survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Hedges and her husband Brian, Polk, Mo., Cassandra Wallace and her husband Robert, Liberal, Mo., and Bettrinae Garren and her husband Paul, Republic, Mo.; two sons, Roy Lee Anderson, Nevada, and Richard Burris and his wife Krista, Nevada; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; seven sisters, Joyce Burris, Pensacola, Fla., Jeanette (Kay) Gardner, Clinton, Mo., Diana Ward, Billings, Mo., Jackie Marlin, Lenapah, Okla., Ada Hall, Milo, Karen Honeycutt, Licking, Mo., and Linda Stone, Nevada. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, William Burris and Donald Burris, and two sisters, Betty Stone, and an infant sister.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 2, 2009, at Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo.

Friends may call now and until noon on Saturday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, between 7 and 8 p.m.
