Carolyn Joan Shaw, 74, Bronaugh, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010, at her home in Bronaugh following a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 10, 1936, in Independence, Mo., to James Andrew Jurdan and Lora Ann Allen Jurdan. She was married June 14, 1956, in Independence, Mo., to Kennon Shaw, and he survives of the home.

Mrs. Shaw was born and reared in Independence, Mo. She moved to the Bronaugh area in 1956 and has resided there since. She had a bachelor of science degree in nursing as well as a degree in psychology. She worked in nursing at a number of area hospitals, and also worked for nearly 20 years for Nevada Mental Health in Nevada. She owned and operated the Dairy Barn in Bronaugh for a time and helped her husband on the farm for a lifetime. She loved to read, especially the Bible, and was an accomplished artist. She was a member of the Christian Church in Liberal, Mo. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband Kennon, survivors include two sons, Kennon R. Shaw Jr., and Todd Shaw, both of Bronaugh; three daughters, Melodie Davis, Ashland, Ala., Sara Shaw, Bronaugh, and Jeni Vernardo, Columbia, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and four siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 8, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Ancil Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Worsley Cemetery, Bronaugh.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday between 6 and 7 p.m.
