Samuel Alfred DeVore, 77, Nevada, passed away on Tuesday morning, March 16, 2010, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. He was born on March 31, 1932, in Nevada, to Alfred Carl DeVore and Lucy Moore DeVore.

Sam was born and raised in Nevada. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his time in the service, he lived in a variety of locales, finally settling back in Vernon County approximately 20 years ago. He was a member of the American Legion and the Nevada Elks Lodge.

Survivors include one brother, Charles Waltz Jr., Lincoln, Ill.; two sisters, Rosemary Harrell, Battlefield, Mo., and Lenora Mable Marshall, Holton, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Ellifrits and Louise Bennett; and one brother Roy Whalen.

Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, March 19, at National Cemetery, Fort Scott, with pastor David Rorabaugh officiating. Friends may call now and until 10:30 a.m., Friday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.

Memorials may be given to a fund for the family in care of Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada, MO 64772.
