Kenneth Woodcook, 81, Montevallo, Mo., passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2010, at the Cedar County Memorial Hospital in El Dorado Springs, Mo., following a brief illness. He was born Nov. 20, 1928, in Helena, Mont., to David Wilmont Woodcook and Cleo Heberling Woodcook. He married Estoal Mae Stepp on March 11, 1951, in Reno, Nev., and she survives of the home.

Kenneth was born in Montana, but raised in Seattle, WA. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II spending part of his service in Pearl Harbor. Following his time in the service, Mr. Woodcook made his living as a Civil Engineer, living in a variety of locales. He came to this area in November of 1983 and has resided here since. He most recently had worked for the Vernon County Assessor's Office in Nevada. He enjoyed woodcarving, blacksmithing, and silversmithing. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors in addition to his wife Estoal, of the home, include: three sons, Kenneth Lee Woodcook, of the state of Vermont, Roger Spencer Woodcook, of the state of California, and Charles Robert Woodcook, Nevada; two daughters, Dixianna Vallaire, Gautier, Miss., and Lorea Lynne Salcideo, of the state of California; 12 grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Woodcook, Redding, Calif., Billy Woodcook, San Diego, Calif.; three sisters, Rosemary Barnes, of the state of Oregon, Nadine Senke, of the state of Oregon, and Nancy Kay Woodcook, Redding, Calif. He was preceded in death by two children, Douglas Brett Woodcook, and Kelly Evans Woodcook; one grandchild, Delbert Crews Salcideo; one brother, Donald Woodcook; and one sister, Lucy Mae Rinck.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 24, at Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, with Rev. Frank Wann officiating. Friends may call now and until Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., at Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada, MO 64772. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
