Gus Eugene Hart, 80, Sheldon, Mo., passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Barton County Memorial Hospital, Lamar, Mo., following a lengthy illness. He was born June 11, 1929, in Drumright, Okla., to Eugene Thomas Hart and Sarah Adlissie Strickland. He was married Sept. 24, 1948, in Drumright, Okla., to Norma Lee Varnell, and she survives of the home.

Mister Hart grew up in the states of Oklahoma and California. He came to Sheldon from California in 1966. Gus worked at the Nevada State Hospital for nine years, and also operated a dairy farm. He ran a milk route for Kraft Foods for a period of time, and later drove his own truck, retiring in 1986 due to an injury.

In addition to his wife, Norma, survivors include three sons, Stephen Hart and his wife Charlotte, David Hart Sr., and his wife Kay, and Phillip Hart, Sr., and his wife Eva, all of Sheldon; one brother, Neal Hart, and his wife Marlene, Springfield, Mo.,; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Joe Hart, and two sisters, Alma Phillips, and Edna Bookout.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 29, at Ferry Funeral Home with Rev. Jim McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo, Mo.
