Dora Helen Kobus, 92, Fort Scott, Kan., formerly of Nevada, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Mercy Health System in Fort Scott. She was born Nov. 20, 1917 in Olvey, Ark., to John Walker Tomlin and Walcie M. Young Tomlin. She was married Nov. 6, 1944, in Paris, Texas, to Arthur F. Kobus and he preceded her in death Dec. 1, 1983.

Mrs. Kobus was born in Olvey, Ark., and grew up in Neosho, Mo. Dora came to Nevada, in 1968 and spent virtually the rest of her life here. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Nevada. She worked for many years in retail clothing sales and also operated The Clothing Mart, located on the Square in Nevada, with her husband from 1955 to until her retirement in 1983. She was an avid card player an interest which she shared with her friends.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Smilie and her husband Dale, Fort Scott; two grandchildren, Kipton Smilie and his fiancé, Madeline Rislow, Lawrence, Kan., and Ethan Smilie and his wife Amanda, Irving, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Helena Smilie, Irving, Texas; one sister, Rose Mary Philliber, Jefferson City; one sister-in-law, Susie Tomlin, Neosho, Mo.; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, two brothers, Rex Tomlin, and Lewis Tomlin, one sister Dorothy Leach.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 28, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with pastor David Rorabaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park in Nevada.
