Bennie Curtis Culbertson, 81, of Fort Scott, died Thursday morning, May 27, 2010, at his home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.

He was born to Roy & Alpha (Mason) Culbertson June 11, 1928, and grew up in Uniontown, Kan. He married Nettie Ruth Cartwright Nov. 21, 1959, in Miami, Okla. She preceded him in death Jan. 30, 2009.

Bennie had an agricultural and fertilizer business, and spent more than 50 years serving the community. When he wasn't working, he was taking care of his propert, and enjoyed mowing his land. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his two daughters, Alpha Bohlken and husband Rick of Fort Scott, and Sheila Fox and husband Donnie, also of Fort Scott; a brother, Leon Culbertson and wife Shirley, of Wichita, Kan.; three granddaughters, Danielle Arens of Wichita, and Lindsay and Rachel Fox of Fort Scott; three stepgrandchildren, Mindy Bohlken of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Anna Blackburn and husband Gary, of Mt. Vernon, Texas, and Jason Bohlken, of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; one stepgreat-granddaughter, Kaylee Burnett of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Nettie, Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, and a granddaughter, Jessica Arens.

Rick Hite will conduct funeral services for Bennie, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday, May 31, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Bennie will be buried in the Uniontown Cemetery, next to his granddaughter Jessica Arens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Association and left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home 15 W. Wall St., P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
