Josephine Johnson

Grace Josephine Johnson, 86, of Uniontown, Kan., died early Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Moran Manor. She was born April 2, 1924, in Oxford, Colo., the daughter of Charles Orville and Grace Emma (Oliver) Handrahan.

She attended school in Oxford until the death of her father. Her mother then married William Semler and the family moved to a farm southeast of Uniontown in 1939.

She graduated from Uniontown High School in 1942, and shortly thereafter she married Abner D. Johnson May 24, 1942 in Uniontown, Kan. He preceded her in death Feb. 21, 2010.

The couple farmed in the Redfield area until 1969 when they moved to Uniontown. Josephine enjoyed making quilts for her children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. She also took great pride in her homemade grape jelly, which she included in the many "care packages" she sent to her grandchildren. She also enjoyed her garden and loved to share with family and friends.

She is survived by her children; Earl "Pat" Johnson and his wife Connie of Redfield, Kan., Ancel "Andy" Johnson and his wife Karen of Fort Scott, Kan., and Lois Coyan and her husband George of Redfield, Kan.; two brothers, Harold Allen Handrahan of Missouri, and Charles Handrahan of Mississippi; a sister, Esther Handrahan of Fort Scott, Kan.; eight grandchildren; Randy Johnson, Brenda Johnson McConville, Crystal Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Tammy Johnson Frank, Robin Johnson Schrack, Mike Coyan, and Doug Coyan, and 17 great-grandchildren; Bridget Johnson, Brady Johnson, Hannah McConville, Mary McConville, Alexandria Johnson Brodbeck, Eva Johnson Brodbeck, Lakyn Coyan, Cale Coyan, Payton Coyan, Amanda Casner, Mark Cutshaw, Nolan Frank, Garrett Frank, Carson Schrack, Corbin Schrack, Trent Johnson, and Ty Johnson. In addition to her husband, Abner, she was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Robert Handrahan.

The Rev. Chub Boling will conduct funeral services 10 a.m., Monday, June 28, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Woods Cemetery near Redfield. The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., Sunday, June 27, at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
