Robert "Bob" E. Horning, 86, Nevada, passed away Aug. 18, 2010, at Christian Health Care in Nevada. He was born April 10, 1924, in Clarinda, Iowa, to Jesse Stephen Horning and Opal Sylvia Edwards Horning. He married and had two children, Chris and Beth Ann, and later, he married Helen Rivers Schmitz in 1961. She brought four children, Linda, Charlene, Steve, and Stuart, from a previous marriage. Helen survives of the home.

Bob spent his youth in Denver, Colo., graduating from South High School, and served in the Coast Guard during World War II. Together, he and Helen owned and operated an A&W Drive In/Restaurant in Golden, Colo., for several years. In 1978, they moved to Nevada. Bob worked for Synergy Gas Company, and also drove a school bus for the Nevada R-5 School District for several years. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1979, and served as an elder in the local congregation in Nevada.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; five children, Chris Horning and his wife, Wendy, Littleton, Colo., Beth Ann Deckman and her husband, Bill, Phoenix, Ariz., Linda Schmitz, Nevada, Charlene Spillman and her husband, Steve, Republic, Kan., and Steve Horning and his wife, Fran, Independence, Mo.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bill, and his son, Stuart Horning.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 21, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Nevada, with Elder Brad Miller officiating.
