Stanley L. Mowry

Stanley L. Mowry left this life surrounded by his family on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2010. He was born on Dec. 23, 1936, to Lewis E. and Iva P. Mowry in Nevada, Mo. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sheryl. He also leaves four children and their spouses, Stephen L. and Ann Mowry of Trimble, Mo., Bradley P. and Cecilia Mowry of Nevada, Lyn D. and Richard L. Jones of Aliso Viejo, Calif., and Leigh A. and Dietrich E. Volkland of Aliso Viejo, Calif. His grandchildren are Rebecca A. (Mowry) Egli, Elizabeth L. Mowry, Whitney L. Mowry, Dennis T. Mowry, Rachael E. Jones, Hannah M. Volkland and Molly K. Volkland.

Stan was the youngest of six children. He is survived by his sisters, Lorine Mayes of Springfield, Maudie Ramey of Springfield, and Mable Urner of Nevada. Predeceasing him were Frances Zwiebel of Huntington Beach, Calif., and brother, Earl L. Mowry of Billings, Mo.

Stan graduated from Nevada High School, served in the Missouri National Guard, worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad and for Farm and Home Savings. For many years, he and Sheryl operated Stan's Flower and Gift Shop in Nevada.

He was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors with his children and grandchildren and loved his family farm. He and Sheryl had the opportunity to travel in their retirement and particularly enjoyed their times together in the American West.

Services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 30, at 2 p.m., at Ferry Funeral Home with the Rev. Ralph Clark officiating. Visitation services will be from 1-2 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
