Kenneth Charles Stangeland

Kenneth Charles Stangeland, 84, Nevada, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011, at Freeman West Medical Center, Joplin, Mo. He was born June 2, 1926, to Clarence Stangeland and Hannah Ronning Stangeland in Dell Rapids, S.D. He married Betty Jean Kriens on Dec. 3, 1952, in Sioux Falls, S.D., and she preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1997.

Kenneth grew up on a farm near Dell Rapids, S.D. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He operated a large farm in South Dakota for a number of years. After moving from South Dakota to Nevada in 1986, Kenneth owned and operated his own business as a welder. In his spare time he loved trap shooting and won many awards. Kenneth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one son, Douglas Stangeland; two grandchildren, Derek Stangeland, Nevada, and Chris Asmus and his wife, Marci, and their two daughters, Sydney and Hadleigh, Huron, S.D.; and one niece, Beverly Gath, Mesa, Ariz. In addition to his wife, Betty, Kenneth was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold Stangeland and Norman Stangeland; and one sister, Myrle Hilmoe.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Chad Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family received friends from 7-8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 7, at the funeral home.
