Kevin Dwayne Hensley, 48, a former resident of Nevada, more recently of Fort Scott, died Thursday, March 24, 2011, at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. He was born Oct. 21, 1962, in Denver Colo., the son of Stanley Keith Hensley and Dorothy Marie Johnson Hensley.

Kevin was a graduate of Nevada High School and received his bachelor's degree in electronics from Southwest Missouri State University. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Tabernacle. Kevin enjoyed sports of all types, as well as gardening, hunting and fishing. He became confined to a wheel chair at the age of 9. He was a member of national wheelchair basketball and tennis teams. He also volunteered many hours for the Nevada youth baseball league. He loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include two brothers, Bruce Hensley, Nevada, Mo., and David Hensley and wife, Jill, Fort Scott; one nephew, B. J. Hensley and Ashley, Nevada; two nieces, Amy Duvall, Kirksville, Mo., and Cali Hensley, Fort Scott. Also surviving are four great-nephews and nieces, Bryce Hensley, Brynn Hensley, Sidney Duvall and Gage Duvall. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Rev. Paul Rooks will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, in the Grace Baptist Tabernacle, Fifth and Margrave Streets, Fort Scott. Burial will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, at Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Grace Baptist Tabernacle Youth Camp Fund and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O.
