Calvin Rex Hensley

Mr. Calvin Rex Hensley, 86, of Republic, Mo., passed to his heavenly home on Sunday, March 27, 2011 in St. John's Hospital, Springfield, Mo. He was born Nov. 6, 1924, in Gentry, Mo., the son of O.C. and Lena (Davis) Hensley.

Rex served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Thelma Schmidt on Feb. 10, 1946.

Rex was ordained as a deacon at the Pine Street Baptist Church in Nevada, Mo., and that began his 58-year service as an ordained deacon, in Nevada, and also at the First Baptist Church in Fort Scott, Kan., and Calvary Baptist Church in Republic, Mo. He had been employed at several grocery firms, including the A&P, for many years, and as a cashier and branch manager of Citizens National Bank, in Fort Scott, for 25 years.

He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Republic, and the Fort Scott VFW.

Rex was very loving and caring. He loved the Lord and his family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Hedrick; and brothers, Glenn and Jack Hensley.

He is survived by his loving wife, Thelma, of the home; a daughter and her husband, Sharon and Dale Bailey, Springfield; siblings, Troy "Bill" Hensley, Nevada, Robert "Bud" Hensley, Neosho, and Bonnie Mitts, San Bernardino, Calif.; many loving nieces and nephews; and other relatives, church family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service, on Wednesday, March 30, at Calvary Baptist Church, Republic, with the Rev. Randy Johnson officiating, under the direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Burial will follow the service in Evergreen Cemetery, Republic.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, Mission Fund.
