Beryl Alene Alexander, 96, Nevada, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, following a brief illness. She was born Sept. 2, 1914, in Metz, Mo., to Frank Everett Brown and Lanora Belle Rider Brown. She was married Feb. 24, 1934, in Metz, Mo., to John Carson Alexander and he preceded her in death Feb. 13, 1995.

Mrs. Alexander was born and grew up on a farm in Metz, Mo., and spent virtually her entire life in Vernon County. She graduated from Metz High School and played on the basketball team there. She was very much a part of her husband's successful trucking business and later their cattle raising and farming business.

She worked at the Milo Post Office for a number of years as assistant postmaster. She greatly enjoyed the contact she had with her co-workers, friends and neighbors. Beryl was a member of the El Dorado Springs Methodist Church in El Dorado Springs, Mo. She spent many enjoyable hours making afghans, quilts, and sewing for her daughters and granddaughters. She was an avid reader and endeared her children to reading by reading to them for countless hours.

Survivors include one son, Darrell Alexander and his wife, Rosemary, Prescott, Wis.; two daughters, Rebecca Gilmore and her husband, Delmar, Milo, Mo., and Linda Alexander-Garza and her husband, Mike, Lone Tree, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; spouse; one grandchild, Kenny Gilmore; one great-grandchild, Michael Gilmore; one great-great-grandchild, Jasper Bennett; and one sister, Esther Brown-Snyder.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 25, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Patty Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview-Rider Cemetery, Rich Hill.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, April 24, between 7 and 8 p.m.
