Jean LaGuire, 87, Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Mercy Health Center, Fort Scott, Kan. She was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Fairfield, Neb., to J. Walter Thornburg and Ivy Main Thornburg. She married Dean Whitworth on Nov. 11, 1943, in the Bronaugh Parsonage home. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1959. She was later married to Dale LaGuire on Aug. 2, 1968, in Nevada, and he preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1987. They lived in Nevada where Dale worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad.

Jean was a 1940 graduate of Fairfield High School in Fairfield, Neb. She moved with her family to Bronaugh, Mo., in the fall of 1940. Jean worked as a bookkeeper at the Farmers Exchange in Bronaugh. Following her marriage to Dean, they moved to Moundville, Mo., and Dean farmed with his father. They had one son, Lynn Dean Whitworth, who was born on July 23, 1945. She worked for many years as a cashier at Karbees Super Market in Nevada. Jean was a member of the United Methodist Church in Nevada, of which she held several positions. She delivered meals on wheels for several years and was a pink lady at the Nevada City Hospital for several years. She was a member and served several positions of the Missouri Pacific Women's Club until it became so small it was dissolved.

Survivors include three nieces, Elaine Lefevre and her husband, Randy, Bronaugh, Mo., Kristy K. Arnold and her husband, Carl, south of Dederick, Mo., and Rhonda Thornburg, El Dorado Springs, Mo.; one nephew, Thomas Lynch and his wife, Sherree, Ashville, N.C.; and several great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, and two husbands, she was preceded in death by one son, Lynn, on Aug. 19, 1980; and Lynn's daughter, Lyndsay, on July 5, 1998.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 28, at the United Methodist Church in Nevada with the Rev. Ralph Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Welborn Cemetery at Moundville, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends Friday, May 27, from 6-7 p.m., at the funeral home.
