Ron Lewis Lawhorne

Ron Lewis Lawhorne, 67, Lamar, Mo., formerly of Nevada, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at his home in Lamar following a lengthy illness. He was born on Jan. 23, 1944, in Little Rock, Ark., to Lewis Wilson Lawhorne and Mary Frances Cruse Lawhorne. He married Julie Reed on Dec. 7, 2002, in Eureka Springs, Ark., and she survives of the home.

Ron was reared in Hot Springs, Ark., where he graduated from high school in 1961. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Henderson College in 1965. Ron later received his Masters of Science Degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla., in 1967. He operated Kapple's Plumbing and Hardware in Nevada for 11 years and has lived in Lamar for the past 15 years where he has been employed by the Southwest Missouri Government Service for the past eight years.

In addition to his wife, Julie, survivors include one son, Marc Lawhorne and his wife, Jody, Columbia, Mo.; one daughter, Mary Katherine Wilson and her husband, Michael, Springdale, Ark.; two stepchildren, Staci Werkmeister, Lamar, Mo., and Jeremy Werkmeister and his wife, Becky, El Dorado Springs, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Mackenzie Wilson, Boone Glavert, Spencer Gibbs and Cody Werkmeister.

No services are planned and the family will receive friends at the home in Lamar from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 29.
