Sharon Kay Hornbeck, 68, Nevada, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Nevada Regional Medical Center in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born July 22, 1942, in Moundville, Mo., to Claude Barnes and Opal Jones Barnes.

Sharon was born in Moundville, Mo., but moved to California as a small child and spent her youth and part of her adult life there. She returned to Vernon County in 1980 and spent the remainder of her life here. She worked for a number of years at the Nevada State Hospital and also for On My Own in Nevada, but she was primarily a homemaker. She was actively involved with the Nevada Griffons, the Welcome Wagon, American Red Cross, the Bloodmobile, and the Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include two daughters, Moriah Randall, Nevada, and Gale Thomas, Milo, Mo.; two grandchildren, Carl Ricketts, Nevada, and Curtis Jamison, Milo, Mo.; one great-granddaughter, Malorie Ricketts; her father, Claude Barnes, Moundville, Mo.; and one sister, Sandra Price, Nevada.

The family will receive friends at Ferry Funeral Home, Monday, June 27, between 1 and 2 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, at Newton Burial Park in Nevada.

Friends may call now and until 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada.

Those who wish may contribute, in her memory, to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation in care of the funeral home.
