Doris Maxine (Miles) Wilson, 83, of Independence, Mo., left us to be with the Lord on June 30, 2011. She was born May 15, 1928, in Nevada, Mo.

Maxine, as she preferred to be called, devoted the majority of her life to helping and caring for others. Her wit and sense of humor could light up a room, and she could always find some good in most any person or situation. From her humble beginnings, her beauty, wit, fearlessness and sense of adventure allowed her to rub elbows with everyone from political leaders to society's elite. She always remained true to her lifelong friends and mostly preferred the company of "regular" people, as they were just more fun. She lived life to the fullest and openly encouraged others to do so as well. Throughout her amazing life she was always willing to help another and never backed down from a fight that was just. She will be eternally remembered and missed by her family and friends. Our condolences to those that never had the opportunity to know her. For those of us that did, our lives were better and we are truly grateful to have been so fortunate enough to have loved and known such a wonderful friend, sister and mother.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, E.R. and Eula (Rogers) Miles; and one brother, Edward "Ed" Miles.

She is survived by her four children, Kathie LeRose, Jerry Wilson and wife, Brenda, Bobby Wilson and Marsha Stockton and husband, Hal; one sister, Dorothy Ulshafer; four grandchildren, Megan LeRose, Brooke Ryan and husband, Jack, Adam Robinett and Jeremy Stockton; one great-grandson, Maddox Stockton; cousin, James Lyen; and many other nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of Maxine's life will take place at a later date.
