Betty McCord, 86, Nevada, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at Christian Health Care in Nevada, following a lengthy illness. She was born Dec. 23, 1924, in Webb City, Mo., to Lester Thomas and Cora Young Thomas.

Ms. McCord was born and raised in Webb City and graduated from Webb City High School. She worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell for 12 years and later worked for 35 years at the J.C. Penney store in Nevada, retiring in 1996. Betty was a member of the First Christian Church in Nevada. She was an avid bridge and bingo player.

Survivors include two sons, Doug McCord and his wife, Bonnie, Nevada, Larry McCord and his wife, Celie, Nevada; four grandchildren, Megan Ray, Springfield, Mo., Reid McCord, Nevada, Lindsey Schlotzhauer, Boonville, Mo., and Logan McCord, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; two great-grandchildren, Caden and Colten Schlotzhauer, both of Boonville, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 16, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Bill Platt officiating. Cremation will follow the services.
