Robert J. Hancock, 75, Nevada, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, Mo., following a brief illness. He was born Oct. 18, 1935, in Thayer, Mo., to Harold V. Hancock and Elsie Coose Hancock. He was married Feb. 5, 1954, in Kansas City, Mo., to Charlene Hanke and she survives of the home.

Robert was raised in the Lockwood and Kansas City, Mo., area. He graduated from Southeast High School, Kansas City, Mo., in 1953. Robert and Charlene came to Nevada in 1963. For a number of years, Robert drove a truck, and also worked for the Vernon County Sheriff's Department and the Nevada Police Department. He was a member of the Carthage Restoration Branch in Carthage, Mo.

In addition to his wife, Charlene, survivors include four sons, Gary Hancock and his wife, Julie, Pleasant Hill, Mo., Terry Hancock and his wife, Jane Ann, Nevada, Chuck Hancock and his wife, Melina, Benton, Ark., and Mark Hancock and his wife, Nikki, Milo, Mo.; six grandchildren, Lisa Newman, Mike Hancock, Stacy Engstrom, Jennifer Hancock, Krista Hancock and Jordan Hancock; two great-grandchildren, Elin Engstrom and Madison Hancock; two brothers, Don Hancock and his wife, Frances, Nevada, and Bill Hancock and his wife, Evelyn, Organ, N.M.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 19, at Newton Burial Park, Nevada, with Gary Hancock officiating. Friends may call now and until 10 a.m., Monday, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada.
