Services for Hilda Cecelia Appleton, 93, of Nevada, will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 23, at Bienhoff Funeral Home, Laddonia, with the Rev. Russell Judge officiating. Burial will be in Laddonia Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Appleton passed away at 5:20 p.m., Dec. 19, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City.

She was born May 8, 1918, in Libourne, the daughter of Alvah N. and Clara Margaret Mentel Schlemmer.

She was married to Dr. Wayne Leroy Appleton on Aug. 1, 1943, in Jacksonville, Ill., and he preceded her in death June 1, 1995.

Survivors include one sister-in-law, Eris Dell Schlemmer, of Laddonia and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Howard, Steve, Raymond and C.C. Schlemmer; and two sisters, Helen Randolph and Della Morey.

Mrs. Appleton worked as a telephone operator in Jacksonville, Ill. When she married she assisted as her husband's secretary in his veterinary business in Ashland, Ill., from 1943 to 1963. Then they moved to Murrayville, Ill., and opened a large hog operation which she oversaw. In August of 1979, they moved to Missouri and she assisted her husband in their farming operation until they retired in May 1995. She enjoyed watching TV, reading, working with flowers, and spending time with family and friends.

Pallbearers will be Frances Schlemmer, Bob Schlemmer, John Schlemmer, Pat Schlemmer, Rich O'Connor and Scott Sims.
