Marilyn Yvonne Forkner Greer passed away on March 14, 2012, at her home in Milo, Mo. Marilyn was born Aug. 18, 1935, to Marvin and Gladys Helen Forkner of rural Horton, Mo. Marilyn attended Metz Schools and graduated from Metz High School in 1953. After graduating high school, Marilyn attended Pittsburg Teacher's College, Pittsburg, Kan., for two years and then received her bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri in 1958. Marilyn began teaching Home Economics in the Nevada R-5 school district immediately after college where she taught for 28 years ultimately retiring in 1992. Marilyn married the love of her life, Lawrence Greer, on June 1, 1962. They lived their entire married lives in the Milo area. Marilyn was involved in many clubs and organizations throughout her lifetime including, but not limited to: 4-H, where she was a club leader and project leader for many years, The Athena's Club, The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Quad County Chapter, The Missouri Rural Letter Carriers Association and National Rural Letter Carriers Association Auxiliary, the Nevada/Vernon County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity board of directors, the Rinehart Extension Club, the Milo Help Your Neighbor Club and numerous other clubs and organizations. She was also a lifelong member and servant of the Rinehart Christian Church where she enjoyed serving meals at VBS and many other activities. Marilyn didn't just join an organization to become a member, she joined an organization to become a servant. Marilyn was also an avid sewing enthusiast who shared her talents with many young ladies throughout her lifetime.

One of Marilyn's greatest joys was her family, especially her grandchildren. She attended every event she possibly could where her grandkids were involved. From sporting events to band concerts or choir performances to church programs, Marilyn was always there.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Lawrence, of the home; daughter, Dianna Duke and husband, Jeff; and sons, Jacob and Joshua of Independence, Mo., and one son Terry and wife, Kim, and their children, Teryn, Paige, Carly and Bryce of rural Nevada. She is also survived by three brothers, Everett Forkner, Richards, Mo., Larry Forkner, Richards, Mo., Brad Forkner, Cherry, Ill.; and one sister, Helen Nutt, Carthage, Mo. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Gladys Helen Forkner.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, March 17, at 2 p.m., at the Rinehart Christian Church with the Revs. Gary Reed and Ricky Walles officiating. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, March 16, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, where friends may call now and until noon Saturday. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Rinehart Christian Church or to the Vernon County Cancer Relief.
